Iaido Seminar and Shinsa

March 2026

In March 2026, Kaicho Sanada set aside his role as teacher and returned to where his own journey began. He rejoined his teachers and former classmates for an intensive Iaido seminar followed by a formal Shinsa (examination).

The seminar was a rare and valuable opportunity to train once again under the direct guidance of his instructors—men and women who shaped the foundation in the art of the sword.
Working alongside longtime classmates, Kaicho focused on precision, timing, and the subtle nuances of form that only years of practice can reveal.

The weekend culminated in the Shinsa, a moment of quiet focus and personal commitment.
For Kaicho, standing for examination was not about rank, but about humility—proving to himself and his teachers that the path of Iaido remains alive in his practice.

Though he leads schools and teaches students in the US, this March served as a powerful reminder: every instructor is first a student.
And true growth comes from returning to the source, standing among peers, and bowing to those who once bowed to no one but their own teachers.

Kaicho Sanada Returns to Japan for Kyudo and Iaido Training

Though Kaicho Sanada leads martial arts schools in the US, he remains a lifelong student.
In February 2026, he again returned to his original school in Japan to train in Kyudo—alongside his teachers and former classmates.

The session focused on refined form, breath control, and the meditative stillness unique to Kyudo.
It was a valuable time to receive direct instruction from his own Kaicho and reconnect with the roots of his practice.

Some journeys are not about teaching, but about remembering.

Japan's Trip

Kaicho Returns from an Inspiring Trip to Japan!

We're excited to welcome Kaicho back from an incredible journey to Japan this September!
From the 1st to the 16th of 2025, he traveled back home to the heart of our traditions, reconnecting with his roots and the spirit of Bushido.

The trip was a powerful blend of dedication and community. Despite the intense heat and humidity, the days were filled with profound training sessions with his teacher and cherished classmates.
It was a time for refining technique, deepening understanding, and sharing the mutual respect that defines our art.

More than just rigorous training, the visit was about spending quality time with our extended martial arts family. These bonds are the foundation of everything we do, and strengthening them overseas energizes our community back home.

Kaicho returns with fresh insights, renewed passion, and even more inspiration to share with all of you. We are already looking forward to the next journey!

The journey continues here at the dojo. Stay tuned for new insights and energy in our upcoming classes!

Annual Camping

Council Grounds State Park WI

July 18th -20th , Bushido Kyokai  annual camping trip to Council Ground State Park was filled with adventure this year. We faced some early challenges with morning storms that damaged a few tents and canopies, but the group came together to make the best of it. Despite the rough start, the nights were absolutely breathtaking with incredible stargazing under clear skies. It was a memorable experience, blending resilience and wonder in the great outdoors.

The cherry blossoms were in full bloom, reminding us of their deep meaning in Japanese culture—especially to the samurai, who saw them as symbols of beauty, resilience, and the fleeting nature of life.
For one afternoon, we celebrated these values together, feeling as if we’d stepped into a spring festival in Japan!
